Night Weekly Routine: A Major Component to Build a Healthy Hair Care Routine

We all know the importance of a solid and healthy hair care routine. In case you are not aware of the benefits of a great routine here are some benefits:

  • Preventing dryness

  • increased moisture retention

  • increased length retention

  • ensures low manipulation

  • protective hairstyle check

  • no more excessive hair loss

  • decreased hair breakage

  • hair gets thicker and gains more volume

  • hair grows strong and healthy, etc.

The list could go on and on about how great hair care routines are. And the truth is they do work. Consistency is key. Build a routine that works for you. Listen to what your hair needs. What we forget most of the time is that adding a few extra steps here and there can perfect and improve our hair care routine. The night weekly routine focuses on that aspect, supplementing. Our hair thrives when it has moisture.

Night Weekly Routine Guide

It is a guide to help you establish and balance your hair care routine. These are the basics, and certain elements can always be changed to cater to you. The Night Weekly Routine is a foundation or basis from which you can add, remove and improve to suit your hair needs. Don't be afraid to explore what your hair needs and wants. The guide can be modified to accommodate your own schedule and incorporate seamlessly instead of hindering your progress.

Night 1: Oil scalp + Moisturize Hair + Protective Style

Make small sections of your hair from the roots to apply oils. These oils can vary based on what you need or your preference. Examples of oils are castor oil, olive oil, and coconut oil. There are also essential oils that can be used to repair, moisturize and stimulate hair growth such as vitamin E essential oils, lavender essential oils, and ginger essential oils.

Moisturize hair with leave-in conditioner or cream of your choice then seal with your oil of choice. The method to moisturize will vary based on the porosity and type of hair you have. High porosity hair needs products that will retain moisture longer and sealants. Medium or normal porosity is equal measures retaining and absorbing moisture. Low porosity hair requires products that will open up its cuticles and hair shaft in order to absorb moisture. Always keep in mind that too much is not the answer. Give your hair enough not more than that. Imagine being forced to eat more food even though you are full and can't eat anymore. Yeah, not such a great feeling is it? Don't abuse your hair.

Protective Styling protects hair and prevents breakage. It locks in moisture and helps retain it for longer. Keeping your ends protected and safely tucked away. The protective style you choose should not strain your hair or have too much tension and pull. This will cause more damage than good. Pick a style that will be gentle on your hair but strong enough to protect your hair. Choose one that works best for you.

Night 2: Protect Your Ends - Canola oil + Eucalyptus Essential Oil + Protective Style

1 Tbsp Canola Oil

10 Drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil

1 Small container

Our ends are the oldest part of our hair and they need to be monitored constantly. They need to be treated with care. They require a boost every now and again that will supplement the nutrients they may have lost or nutrients they lack.

Canola oil has plant sterols that help soften your ends and eucalyptus oil moisturizes split ends. This is double the benefit. We soften our ends preventing breakage while repairing our split ends. The oil mixture will be great for rejuvenating your split ends and boosting your already healthy ends.

Apply the mixture thoroughly to infuse all the goodness into your hair. Do not overdo it. Your hair should not be drowned in oil, nor should it be coarse. Use the right amount, only enough for your hair. You can add or reduce oils according to your hair's length or how much it needs to absorb.

Night 3: Hair Break Night

We let our hair rest. There is no need for over-manipulation. Do only enough for your hair. More in this case is bad. Stop, let your hair breathe, and relax. You've already given your hair what it needs, now let it take charge and do what it was naturally born to do, grow. Do not think that if you do nothing then your hair will shrivel and die right before your eyes. Nope. Regular breaks are necessary for your hair's health. So chill.

Night 4: Repeat Night 1 Routine

Yes. We are repeating what we did on the first night. We are building consistency and maintaining the moisture of our hair.

Night 5: Repeat Night 2 Routine

Again. We do exactly what we did on night 2. We are protecting our ends and giving them that layer of protection and feeding them all the goodness it needs.

Night 6: Water Spritz

1/2 cup water (+/-)

1 Tbsp oil of your choice/ 5 drops of essential oil of your choice

1 small spray bottle

'Watering our hair.' We are adding moisture of a different kind. Water is life. As much as you need to drink water which is also superb for your hair growth and its health in general, spraying your actual hair is great for your hair's health. We are not soaking our hair with water, we are lightly spritzing our hair with water to hydrate it. It makes our hair more manageable, less flakiness in the scalp, reduces itchiness, controls the oiliness of your scalp, helps with hair growth, and reduces dryness. These are some of the many benefits of spritzing your hair with water. Once again do not overdo it.

Night 7: Repeat Night 3 Routine

Less Manipulation = Greater Length Retention

Hair is both strong and fragile. It is therefore our duty to give it the chance to rest after working so hard to get us to our desired hair goals. It deserves the break. Those hair goals can only be accomplished if you work as a team with your hair. Value your hair's health.

Overall, have time to understand your hair and let it speak to you. Let it guide you to what it needs and what it wants. Listen when it reveals your mistakes as well as when it is pleased with what you have done. If the product makes your hair drier than it was before you used it then your hair is clearly telling you to try a different one. If your hair looks lustrous, thick, soft, and beautiful then your hair is happy and you should stick to that product. Most importantly, give yourself the time to research and learn about hair and learn to accept your hair, because that is what your hair is, unique and beautiful.
